Re: Knife patch :D
Claymores were generally remotely detonated or detonated with a trip wire. This is an interesting read.

You want realism? Then why do people complain about a game being "not realistic enough" for people not being able to shrug off a knife attack. Knifes don't one hit kill. Many knife victims get stabbed multiple times in rapid succession.
I played Americas Army for the whole realism thing. Some examples. Which you can compare with CoD for your own pleasure.
- Smoke made a thick cloud of smoke. There was no way to see through it.
- Grenades were grenades. You got nailed by one, you died. No question.
- Incendiary nades light you on fire. Then you burn to death.
- You get shot, you get damaged throughout the whole round.
- You get shot, you bleed. You need a medic to stop the bleeding. However you are still damaged. Your accuracy will suffer and you cannot run as fast.
- Snipers were snipers. You get hit by an M82 and you died. You got hit by a S24 and you died. None of this bullshit where you get hit in the chest and you walk free after regenerating health.
- Guns has some serious range. As they do normally. Snipers can clear maps. Rifles can clear fields. Silencers didn't greatly reduce range.
- Objective were a lot funner and you were rewarded for stealth. You can easily make too much noise. There was no way to mask it. A door opening would make a creak or a slam. A squad shouting command could be heard if you were close enough.
- You died. That was it. No more playing for yooooouuuuu Not until the next round (SnD)
- Falls hurt. If you fell off stairs you would be damaged for the duration of the match. You wouldn't breath heavily then regenerate health and be fine again.
It was just more real. The more realistic the game is, the harder it is. The harder it is, the better you become and need to be at it. I was great at Americas Army because you need to use your brain to win. You died in a matter of a few bullets if you weren't careful. And you defenetly weren't rewarded for being a lughead (running, getting shot then healing, then running again)

i wouldn't say the more real a game is the harder it is, its all relative because everyone that plays that game suffers the drawbacks and the advantages

It's harder for some easier for others. Depends on how you play.
