Re: Open sniper lobby
yea I eventually got into the sniper lobby at like 11:30 -12, i got home at around 11 last night and tried for half an hour with no luck.
We need an electrician to come into our house and rewire the phone lines because the net and phone are interfering with each other so my net drops out every time we get a phone call
It's like having dial up!

Yeah that is probably your internal wiring, but before you do that try new filters/splitters as they fuck up a lot and can cause that. If you have more then 1 phone or anything else connected to the phone line you can also try just having 1 hooked up at a time to test if it is coming from a certain phone or phone socket.

Re: Open sniper lobby
We have one house phone that is 2 wireless phones and one phone in my dad's study, we have tried 3 separate modems and they all have the same problem and i have tried 2 different filters, but I haven't tried a new phone socket because we have this computer in the our study with its own phone line and all the other phones are on a separate socket as well.
Would you recommend trying a new socket for the internet modem?

Well it couldn't hurt but I guess it doesn't really help if you need the modem to stay where it is. Would narrow it down for the electrician I guess.

Re: Open sniper lobby
I have 1500/256kbs wich would be what your getting. Its basically average australian net i guess. Noticiblt better than what you would have had, but no where near the best.Friddles wrote:I did alright for the lag I had, cant wait for tomorrow though new net thats 6x faster then i had. You will download files on your computer at an average of 160kbs and upload at 25kbs. You will be able to host small parties (if you live in a good area)
Re: Open sniper lobby
Yeah if its 6 times faster you must have had 256k/64k so 1500k/256k will be a lot better. I couldn't go back to it though. Mines running at 6016k/384k and I start having trouble sometimes trying to host more then 12 players.

Re: Open sniper lobby
1500/256kbs means that your internet bandwidth is 1.5mbs download and 256kbs upload
1000kb to a mb, kbs = kilobytes a second
Take of the last digit, and thats the speed you will physically download a single packet (or file) at eg: 150kbs or upload at 25kbs.
ADSL2+ doesnt have a single speed, as its based on how close you are to the node (or tower in simple terms). But it is an average of speeds of 5mbs and upwards.
The NBN [National Broadband Network] (as it is optic fibre, instead of copper) can promise speeds on average of 20mbs and upwards to 50mbs. As optic fibre is light and doesnt degrade over distance, while electrical signals over copper do and suffer from electromagnetic interference. Rage feel free to please correct anything that may be wrong or confusing to others.

Re: Open sniper lobby
Cheers Tom And yer in had herd about the new fibre optic thing but didn't know much soo you helped me with that aswell lol but I've seen in japan that theirs is like 10GB a second and that sum company has created 100GB a second Internet there aswell soo that's pretty ridiculous and ours is soo far offJackarseboyz wrote:1500/256kbs means that your internet bandwidth is 1.5mbs download and 256kbs upload

Re: Open sniper lobby
What Tom said is pretty much right. When you download something the speed is represented in kilobits per second whereas you connection speed is represented in kilobytes per second. 8 kilobits = 1 kilobyte so if your on a 1500k/256k connection your theoretical maximum download speed in regards to downloading a file would be 187.5kbps, of course you never get the maximum though, so the way Tom explained it is pretty much right. Try explaining that to someone who has no clue what they are talking about and rings up bitching because their plan says that they're on a 1500kbps plan but they're only downloading at 150kbps. It happens all the fucking time lol. As for adsl2 I would say the average would be closer to 10mbps, there are plenty of lucky people out there who get the full 20mbps as well. I think I just made things more confusing.
As for Japan well the difference is they're a small country with a big population so data doesn't have to travel anywhere near as far. Same with countries like USA who have a population in the hundreds of millions, so a telco company will happily spend billions of dollars on a really fast network as they are going to be receiving revenue from hundreds of millions of customers rather then 20 million scattered customers.
